Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.
For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will take on 3% attack damage every time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).
The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases as the item level rises.
Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. These can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level in order for the component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component that is used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defense attributes of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.
The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will drop at the time of the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much they'll improve following a subsequent reset.
The process of upgrading an item could be expensive and it's possible that the item will become obsolete, or even break, in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade components which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in a radius around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded various ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 whenever you can.
In the endgame, you will often find that the best way to enhance your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.
Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most commonly used. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.
Each Glyph has a particular range of values it can improve a stat by. The value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.
Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic places on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For instance, a Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes, but you should also consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.
Leveling
The system of upgrading items lets players increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each item level requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and when enough points have been earned, the upgrade can be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When a player upgrades the equipment they have the original item will be replaced with a new item. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a problem because it can make the item more expensive, even if you don't require it.
Upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses. This is a good idea however it should not be repeated often since it can waste resources.
Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives an increase in power if the player continuously enters or exits the water. It is possible to upgrade it several times, each time raising the maximum roll by 10 points. This item is very valuable in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of a non-upgraded counterpart.
Requirements
The upgrade of items allows players to increase the level of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of that piece, while upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage and the strength and dexterity required to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.
Each item can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear that can be upgraded up to eight times. Every time you upgrade an object it is at risk of failing. The probability of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures will result in the item returning to its initial state which means that the player has to purchase more materials than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.
If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained, such as crit chance attack damage, additional effects (such as increased heal over time, or reloading speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor after the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in its crit chance, the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item's definition and the value is computed every time an upgrade is made.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to the value of the base item. For instance, a common item might have five upgrades at a cost. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items have lower costs per upgrade.
Premium items have different requirements for upgrading as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons. Whatever the case, players will have to visit the NPC [Armorthe ] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each upgrade will require an individual amount of upgrade ingredients.
